Spanish Battleship España

Spanish Battleship España

The lead ship of its class, España was a dreadnought battleship of the Spanish Navy. The other ships in the class were Alfonso XIII and Jaime I. Launched in October 1913, she ran aground off Cape Tres Forcas 26 August 1923, during the Rif War while bombarding rebel positions. The wreck was partially scrapped in place.

After the overthrow of King Alfonso XIII, his namesake ship Alfonso XIII was renamed España in April 1931.
