Latécoère 522 French Flying Boat
The Latécoère 522 was an evolution of the Laté 521 with a re designed forward fuselage and more powerful engines.
Very little is known about this aircraft, only two transatlantic flights were made before it was requisitioned by the French Navy for long range patrols during the early stages of World War Two.
The French Navy iinstalled more powerful engines and military equipment. It took part in convoy escorts to Narwik (Norway). With the fall of France to the German’s, it was moved to Morocco. After the armistice, the aircraft returned to France and was based near Marseilles where it was returned to Air France. During this time it made long-range flights to Djibouti, Dakar and Madagascar.
When Southern France liberated, it was destroyed by retreating German forces along with the Latécoère 521.
