Alecto Self-Propelled Gun

The Alecto (named after on of the three Furies) was a development of the A25 Light Tank Mk VIII Harry Hopkins. It used a lightweight version of the Mk. VIII chassis and was armed with a 95-millimetre (3.7 in) howitzer. A small number of Alecto Is were completed, some served briefly with the British Army in Germany, arriving in the immediate post-war period and they equipped the heavy companies of at least the Kings Dragoon Guards operating in the Middle East just after the end of the war.

Several were converted to dozers for use by the Royal Engineers while another was tested as an armoured personnel carrier.
