The Arado Ar 196A-1 was the first production model of the Arado Ar 196, with the first of 20 floatplanes entered service in June 1939 which were delivered to various Luftwaffe units and Kriegsmarine warships.

Powered by a BMW 132K nine-cylinder 960 hp radial engine, armament consisted of one 7.92 mm MG 17 machine gun at the rear seat for defence. It could also carry two 50 kg (110 lb) bombs under the wings or two depth charges for anti-submarine warfare.
