Unlike the main production version of the Arado Ar 196, the the Ar 196B-0 had a single float with two smaller outrigger floats. The single-float configuration showed excellent water handling but was rejected in favor of the twin-float A model because of the risk of the outrigger floats digging in during rough seas.
Apart from the two prototypes, V3 and V4, three pre-production B models were built (B-01, B-02 and B-03).
