Yugoslavia purchased a licence to produce 50 Bristol Blenheim Mk.I bombers for the Royal Yugoslav Air Force. Two aircraft were delivered from Britain as pattern aircraft, while approximately 40 others were produced by Ikarus. A request to purchse Blenheim Mk.IV bombers was turned down by Britain, but 20 Mk.Is were delivered as an alternative.

Following the German invasion of 6 August 1941, many were lost during attacks on invading forces, or on the ground at airfields. Following the German victory, around 20 airframes were salvages and refurbished by the Germans, who passed them on to Croatia and Romania.
