The Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV added a lengthened nose and stepped windscreen, to improve room for the bomb aimer. Initially, a full extension of the nose was made, however, this restricted the pilots view on landing, so the port side was scooped out, resulting in an asymmetrical layout. Improved armament consisted of a 0.303 in machine gun in the port wing, plus two 0.303 in machine-guns in a powered operated dorsal turret, and two remotely controlled rearward-firing 0.303 in machine guns mounted beneath the nose. Additional armour was added, as were more powerful Mercury engines.
