French Battleship Paris

Along with her three sisters Courbet, France, and Jean Bart, Paris was a Courbet-class dreadnought battleship built for the French Navy. Laid down on 10 November 1911 and launched on 28 September 1912, she was commissioned into the navy on 1 August 1914.

Paris spent much of 1914 providing fire support to the Montenegrin Army. The remainder of the First World War was spent providing cover to the Otranto Barrage that blockaded the Austro-Hungarian Navy in the Adriatic Sea.

In 1925 during the Third Rif War, she supported French and Spanish troops. From 1931 she was operated as a school ship, until the star of World War Two. She was then re-armed. Damaged by a German bomb during the defence of Le Havre, she made her way to Britain. Seized by the British during Operation Catapult, she was used a a depot ship for the remainder of the war. Post war she was returned to France where she continued to be used as a depot ship. Stricken in 1955, she was scrapped in 1956.
