FV4101 Charioteer Medium Tank
Based on the Cromwell tank, the FV4101 Charioteer Medium Tank was a British medium tank of the early 1950s. Weight limits on the Cromwell’s suspension meant that the turret for the Charioteer had minimal armour (20-30mm), while at the same time being larger to accommodate the 84 mm (3.3 in) Ordnance QF 20 pounder gun (the Cromwell had a Ordnance QF 75 mm gun).
While the Charioteer was being manufactured, the British Army underwent a re-organization and only a few entered service. The surplus vehicles were sold to Austria, Finland, Jordan and Lebanon. Around 442 were produced.
