Hawker Hurricane in Portuguese Service
Portugal operated a total of 147 Hawker Hurricanes from August 1943 until 1952. The first six Hurricane Mk.IIC fighters were delivered from RAF stocks located in Libya and flown to Portugal via Gibraltar. From August 1943 to March 1944 an additional 97 a mix of Mk.IIC and Mk.IIB aircraft were delivered by ship. The Mk.IIBs were a mix of Canadian manufactured Mk.XB, Mk.XIB, Mk.XIIB which were converted to Mk.IIB standard.
The final 44 Hurricanes were delivered in 1947, consisting of 43 Mk.IICs and one Mk.IIB.
