Heinkel He 111 in Romanian Service
Romania received twelve Heinkel He 111 H-6 bombers in early 1942, entering service with Escadrila 78 Bombardament Maritim. Although they were equipped for torpedo bombing, it is unclear if they undertook any such missions. Consequently they were deployed to Bessarabia and Moldavia in the spring and summer of 1944. After the anti-fascist coup they flew missions in Transylvania against Hungarian and German targets.
In addition to the twelve H-6s, Romania received around 30 H-3s along with 20 E and earlier models for training. By the spring of 1945 less than 10 were operational. Several Heinkels were retained post-war and converted to transports. All Heinkel He 111s had been withdrawn from service by 1950.
