Heinkel He 112 in Japanese Service
The Imperial Japanese Navy purchased 12 Heinkel He 112B-0 fighters, which it designated as the Heinkel A7He1. Although not used in front-line service, it was given the reporting-name Jerry, by the Allies. Evaluation by the Japanese concluded that although 65 kmph faster than the Mitsubishi A5M, it was less manoeuvrable. As this was the dominating factor in Japanese fighter doctrine at the time, it was not recommended to be used as the main Navy fighter.
