Heinkel He 115 in Spanish Service

Towards the end of the Spanish civil war, two Heinkel He 115 A seaplanes were sent to Spain as part of the Legion Condor. Based in Mallorca, their task was to determine the effects of Mediterranean corrosion on the airframes. After undertaking several unopposed reconnaissance flights and demonstrations to Spanish officials, they returned to Germany in May 1939. Inspection of the two aeroplanes determined that a larger than expected amount of corrosion had taken place.
