HMS Marlborough (1912) Title

HMS Marlborough (1912) British Battleship

HMS Marlborough (1912)

HMS Marlborough (1912) was an Iron Duke-Class battleship of the Royal Navy. Laid down on 25 January 1912, she was launched on 24 August 1912. Commissioned in June 1914, she served with the Grand Fleet for the duration of World War One, enforcing the naval blockade of Germany.

During the Battle of Jutland, HMS Marlborough sank the German cruiser Wiesbaden, although the cruiser managed to hit Marlborough with a torpedo that eventually forced her to retire from the battle line.

Post war she was involved in the Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War, rescuing some members of the Imperial family from Yalta. In line with the mandated withdrawal of the Iron Duke class from service required by the London Naval Treaty, she was used for weapons tests. The results of the tests were incorporated in the upgrades given to the Queen Elizabeth-Class battleships. Marlborough was scrapped in 1932.
