Junkers Ju 287
The Junkers Ju 287 was an aerodynamic test bed designed to evaluate a jet bomber for the Luftwaffe late in World War Two. Apart from the wings, much of the aircraft’s components were obtained from existing components. The front undercarriage was savaged from a crashed Consolidated B-24 bomber.
The Ju 287V-1 flew 17 test flights, but was destroyed to avoid capture in 1945. The V2 was almost complete, and was also destroyed. V3 at 80-90% complete and V4 at 60% were captured by Soviet forces.
