Lockheed F-4 Lightning in Australian Service

The Royal Australian Air Force received five Lockheed F-4 Lightning photo reconnaissance aircraft from August 31, 1942. These aircraft were used for frontline photo reconnaissance sorties. Three served with No. 1 Photo Reconnaissance Unit RAAF and two were attached to a fighter unit, No. 75 Squadron RAAF. They served until September 1, 1944, when the last aircraft, A55-1 crashed.
