Messerschmitt Me 264 Amerikabomber
The Messerschmitt Me 264 was designed as part of the Luftwaffe’s Amerikabomber project, for a strategic bomber capable of bombing New York from bases in France or the Azores. Three prototypes were constructed, with only V1 RE+EN undergoing flight tests. The V2 and V3 were destroyed in bombing raids before they were complete.
A bombing raid on 18 July 1944 damaged V1, which was operating with Transportstaffel 5. It was not repaired.
