NAeL Minas Gerais A-11 Brazilian Aircraft Carrier

NAeL Minas Gerais A-11 was an modified Colossus-class aircraft carrier of the Brazilian Navy. Launched in February 1944 for the British Royal Navy as HMS Vengeance (R71), she did not see any action in World War Two. In 1952 she was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy as HMAS Vengeance, serving until 1956.

Following HMAS Vengeance’ return to Britain in 1956, the ship was purchased by Brazil and underwent a four year conversion, to enable her to operate jet aircraft. This entailed fitting an angled deck, strengthened lifts and more powerful catapults, along with other upgrades. Commissioned into the Brazilian Navy in 1960, she served until October 2001 when she was decommissioned and sold for scrap.
