Netherlands Protected Cruiser Holland
The lead-ship of her class of six protected cruisers built for the Royal Netherlands Navy, HNLMS Holland was launched on 4 October 1896. The other five ships were: Zeeland, Friesland, Gelderland, Noordbrabant and Utrecht.
Holland spent her career in the Netherlands East Indies. During the Boxer Rebellion of 1900, along with other Dutch warships, she safeguarded Dutch and European interests in Shanghai. She again safeguarded European citizens during the fall of Imperial China in 1911.
She represented the Queen of the Netherlands at the funeral of the Japanese emperor Meiji in Yokohama in 1912.
HNLMS Holland was decommissioned in 1920 and later scrapped.
