SNCAC NC.1080 French Carrier Based Interceptor
First flying on 29 July 1949, the SNCAC NC.1080 was a prototype interceptor designed for the Aéronavale. Testing found to be directionally unstable as well as having other design flaws. As a result, small plates wee added to the wingtips and the rudder was enlarges. The plates were later moved to the tail. Ailerons were added and spoilers removed.
After rectification the sole prototype was tested by the Aéronavale, where on its second day of testing it entered a spin and crashed killing the test pilot. The program was cancelled and a license-built version of the British de Havilland Sea Venom was ultimately selected to satisfy Aéronavale’s requirement.
