Spanish Battleship Alfonso XIII
Alfonso XIII was the second ship of the España-class of dreadnought battleships for the Spanish Navy. The other ships in the class were Jaime I and España. Launched in May 1913, she was completed in 1915.
During the Rif War, Alfonso XIII bombarded rebel positions. With the overthrow of King Alfonso XIII, the ship was renamed España in April 1931, to remove links to the old monarchy.
She fought for the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War and was sunk on 30 April 1937 after hitting a mine laid by a Nationalist minelayer.
