Supermarine Spitfire Operated by Argentina
Although three Supermarine Spitfires were operated in Argentina, none were actually assigned to operation units.
In 1947 a Spitfire Mk.VIIIC JF275 and a Spitfire PR.XI PL972 were bought by a private owner. PL972 carried the registration code LV-NMZ.
Supermarine Spitfire HF.IXE PL974 was donated to the Argentine Government to be used for instructional purposes only. It was used by the engineering department at the National University of La Plata.
The Argentine Air Force never had Spitfires on unit strength, although one was painted in Air Force colours for some time and another was flown later as a test bed.
