Vickers Type 161 Pusher Fighter
The Vickers 161 was designed in response to Air Ministry specification F.29/27 which called for a fighter interceptor armed with COW 37 mm gun. Produced by Coventry Ordnance Works, it fired 23 oz (0.65 kg) shells. The gun was to be mounted at at least 45 degrees, to enable the fighter to attack enemy bombers from beneath.
Despite performing well during trials the Type 161 was not ordered into production and the concept was discarded as impractical.
